Colts stay atop jam-packed Pueblo Preps Power Five softball rankings
The best 4A softball league in the state stayed that way last week, Pueblo teams combining to go 8-1 and continuing a historic start to the 2019 season. For the second straight week, South stays atop that jam-packed ranking, boasting an 7-0 record. It added a blowout win over La Junta to its resume last week.
It’s almost random and maybe even a wee bit premature to try to sort out the next three spots in the rankings. Centennial, at 8-0, moves up to the No. 2 spot while Central, at 4-0, notches in at No. 3. Pueblo West, which didn’t play last week, falls to No. 4 in the latest rankings — but likely those rankings will all chance come next week.
South-Central League play opens Tuesday, and get a load of these matchups: Pueblo West hosts South at 3:30 p.m. at Pueblo West High School, then Centennial and Central will square off at 7 p.m. at the Runyon Sports Complex. Let the jockeying begin!
On the outside looking in is Pueblo County, the defending S-CL champ that, like Pueblo West, did not play last week. Its Tuesday game against East will all but decide next week’s No. 5 spot.
Note on rankings: Power rankings rank local teams across all classifications. As such, 4A teams are generally considered stronger than 3A teams, 3A stronger than 2A, etc.
