Centennial got back to its winning ways last week, routing Mitchell 10-1 to highlight its week, allowing it to keep the top spot in the Pueblo Preps Power Five boys soccer rankings for the third straight week.
The Bulldogs, sitting at 5-2, are the only Pueblo County school to receive votes in the CHSAANow.com 4A poll.
Pueblo West keeps the second spot despite a 2-0 loss to Discovery Canyon, the 5th-ranked team in the state. The Cyclones followed it up with a 1-0 win over Coronado, a team that South also bested in a 2-1 win last week. Through that, the Colts, off to a 4-1 start, moved up from the five spot to 4th in the lastest Power Five rankings.
An intriguing team on the upswing is East, playing at a level that it hasn’t in years, and good enough to climb to the 3rd spot in the latest Power Five rankings.
The Eagles are off to a 6-1 start, having won six straight and claiming shutouts in its past four games, one of which coming against S-CL rival, Pueblo County. Senior keeper Seth Rubio is on fire, having recorded over 320 consecutive shutout minutes in goal for the Eagles.
East, however, has played against weak teams, its past six opponents sporting a combined record of 6-19. Its first true test won’t come until Oct. 1 when it travels to Pueblo West to take on the Cyclones in an S-CL showdown.
Note on rankings: Power rankings rank local teams across all classifications. As such, 4A teams are generally considered stronger than 3A teams, 3A stronger than 2A, etc.
